It felt remote and wild. 
It is a grounded place, with its own rhythm.

We lived there for a while, amongst the birds, the whispering trees and the gurgling burn, and felt how important it was to conserve it. We commissioned an ecological report to guide us, which showed how unusual Darach is in holding so many distinct habitats within twelve acres. 

What stood out in the report was the numerous ecological edges at Darach: where the grassland and meadow meet the ancient woodland, where the ancient woodland meets the Allt an Tressait burn, where the Allt an Tressait burn meets the shingle beach and Loch Tummel. All these ecological edges support a greater diversity of life than the individual habitats on either side. It has inspired us to write an ecological guide to Darach, which is available for your stay. 

We look after Darach from afar, and Becky, our house manager, looks after it, and you, on the ground. She prepares the house before you arrive and is on hand throughout your stay.
